How we test Wi-Fi, noise and outlets
The rules behind every number on Perch.

Every place on Perch is visited by one of our editors, who works there for at least two hours. Here is what we measure and how.
Wi-Fi speed
We run three speed tests at a table, not next to the router, at different times of the visit. We publish the lowest result, in Mbps. Fast Wi-Fi means 100 Mbps or more.
Noise
Silent means no talking at all. Quiet means low voices and soft music. Moderate is a normal café. Lively means music, groups and calls all around you.
Outlets
We count the seats that can reach an outlet without a cable. Plenty of outlets means most seats, and outlets at every seat means exactly that.
Keeping it fresh
We revisit every place at least twice a year, and each listing shows the date of the last check and the editor who did it.
