Our take
The Carlton Reading Room is a small public library with one long, silent room at its heart. It is popular with students, so weekday mornings are the best time to find a seat.
It is free and open seven days, and most seats have power. The Wi-Fi tested at 60 Mbps, fine for writing but slow for video. Lygon Street’s cafés are two minutes away.
